Vanderbilt vs. Texas A&M 2013 final score: Aggies blow past Commodores, 56-24

There were some wobbles along the way, but Johnny Manziel and the Aggies coasted to an easy win over Vanderbilt.

The Texas A&M Aggies had some slip-ups, but they were able to comfortably take care of business against Vanderbilt, winning 56-24 at home on Saturday. A&M turned the ball over five times, but had more than enough offensive firepower to make up for their mistakes.

Things got out of hand quickly in this game, with the Aggies building a 21-0 lead before the first quarter was over. Johnny Manziel, who hurt his shoulder against Auburn, threw all three of those touchdowns, and didn't show much lingering impact from the injury.

Things got interesting in the second quarter, as the Commodores scored 17 unanswered points to make it 28-17 at the half, and it seemed like the second half would be an intriguing affair. That, unfortunately, was not the case.

A&M came out and scored on the first play of the second half, despite the fact that Vanderbilt was the team on offense. Howard Matthews picked off a wide receiver screen and took it back to the house, and any momentum that the Commodores had built in the first half was gone. Manziel would throw another touchdown pass, but would eventually give way to Matt Joeckel to finish the game.

The day will be a loss for Vanderbilt, but wide receiver Jordan Matthews set a new SEC all-time receiving record, breaking the previous record of 3,093 by Georgia's Terrence Edwards. Matthews finished with eight receptions for 92 yards. Mike Evans, the other big-time wide receiver in this game, was held to only 77 yards, but did pull in a pair of touchdowns.

Box Score Hero:

Johnny Manziel was phenomenal, going 25-35 for 305 yards, four touchdowns and a pick in less than three quarters of play. He only rushed for 11 yards, but didn’t really need to do much with his legs for the Aggies to be successful.

Rankings Ramifications:

Texas A&M came into the game ranked 16th in the BCS standings, and this win should boost them up a few places.

But Did They Cover?

The Aggies were 17-point favorites at kickoff, so they covered the spread.
