College football news roundup: Four Top 25 teams suffer losses

Elsewhere, the top four coasted, lightning crashed over north Texas, and Mike Davis’ injury was not as bad as it looked.

Upsets!

Minnesota started an upset-filled Saturday by beating No. 24 Nebraska, 34-23, putting Bo Pelini squarely on the hot seat. Duke (DUKE!) beat No. 14 Virginia Tech, 13-10, despite being outgained 387-198 by the Hokies. And No. 21 South Carolina erased a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat No. 5 Missouri, 27-24. The game ended when Tigers kicker Andrew Baggett missed a field goal in double overtime.

And No. 15 Oklahoma beat No. 10 Texas Tech, 38-30, for Kliff Kingsbury's first loss as the Red Raiders' head coach (the Sooners were favored, but still, Tech is no longer unbeaten).

Blowouts!

No. 1 Alabama rolled by Tennessee, 45-10; No. 2 Florida State covered the spread in the first quarter and then let off the gas in a 49-17 win over NC State; No. 3 Oregon demolished UCLA, 42-14, after a second-half surge; No. 4 Ohio State jumped to a 42-7 halftime lead before coasting to a 63-14 win over Penn State; No. 8 Baylor beat Kansas, 59-14; No. 11 Auburn had no problem with Florida Atlantic in a 45-10 win; and No. 16 Texas A&M rode a strong second half to a 56-24 win over Vanderbilt.

Weather!

Texas was a-stormin', as Texas-TCU was delayed for three hours as storms passed over the area. The Longhorns outlasted both the lightning and the Horned Frogs, winning 30-7 late Saturday night. Texas Tech-Oklahoma's start was also delayed due to inclement weather.

Injuries

Auburn

Quarterback Nick Marshall was taken to the locker room after suffering an arm injury in the Tigers’ win over FAU, and did not return due to “precautionary reasons.”

Oklahoma

Another Sooner starter is out for the year with an injury -- this time fullback Trey Millard, who tore his ACL in his left knee in Oklahoma's win over Texas Tech.

Oregon

Star running back De'Anthony Thomas ran for a touchdown against UCLA in his return to the field, but chose to leave the game with his still-lingering ankle injury.

South Carolina

Running back Mike Davis suffered what looked to be a gruesome leg injury in double overtime during the Gamecocks’ win, but later told reporters the injury was not notable.

USC

The already-depleted Trojans lost two more starters in their win over Utah -- safety Su'a Cravens and offensive tackle Kevin Graf -- bringing them down to 56 scholarship players.

Recruiting

Maryland

The Terps lost a surprisingly close game to Clemson, but received good news after in the form of a 2015 three-star offensive lineman commit, local star E.J. Donahue.

Wisconsin

The Badgers also received a key commitment, as 2014 three-star defensive tackle Jeremy Patterson committed to the program.

GameDay

In an unsurprising move, GameDay is headed to Tallahassee for a battle of unbeatens next weekend when Florida State hosts Miami.
