San Diego State nearly pulled off the upset, but No. 17 Fresno State was able to hang on and remain undefeated with a 35-28 win in overtime.

They needed overtime, but the Fresno State Bulldogs improved to 7-0 with a victory over San Diego State.
The Bulldogs started overtime on offense and took advantage. Marteze Waller was the star of the possession, racking up 37 receiving yards, including a pair of crucial first-down conversions before hamming in a 1-yard rushing touchdown. The defense held, knocking away a fourth-down pass into the endzone to seal the victory.
Fresno State scored on its second offensive possession of the game, but the defenses got the better of the first three quarters. The teams combined for 10 punts through three quarters and entered the final period tied 14-14.
That is when things opened up. Derek Carr threw his second touchdown of the game to put Fresno State up 21-14. The Bulldogs’ defense got into the act on SDSU’s next drive, scoring on a 78-yard fumble return. Up 28-14, the Bulldogs appeared on their way to a win, but the Aztecs weren’t done yet. A touchdown drive made it a seven-point game and after recovering an onside kick, SDSU tied the game, 28-28.
San Diego State had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Seamus McMorrow had his 37-yard field goal attempt partially blocked. The kick was almost good despite the deflection, but fell short.
Carr was not his usual prolific self, throwing for 261 yards on 54 attempts during regulation. He finished with 298 passing yards while completing 35-of-57 passes.
Box Score Hero: Davante Adams had a big receiving game for Fresno State, finishing with 12 receptions for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Rankings Ramifications: It may not have been pretty, but the Bulldogs came away with a win and are now 7-0. With a couple of teams above them losing, FSU could move up in the BCS rankings.
But Did They Cover?: Fresno State opened as 9.5-point favorites and while it picked up the win, it failed to cover the spread.
