Texas running back Johnathan Gray appeared to fumble at the goal line, with Iowa State linebacker Jeremiah George’s recovery sealing the game. It did not seal the game.
Big 12 Supervisor of Football Officials Walt Anderson has responded with a statement.

David PurdyThe Texas Longhorns escaped from Ames with a 31-30 win over the Iowa State Cyclones Thursday night. A late touchdown drive, aided by two pass interference penalties and a pair of questionable calls on goal line fumbles, helped the Longhorns (3-2, 2-0) to the win. Iowa State (1-3, 0-1) nearly got into field goal range, but ended its final drive in an interception.
Texas pinned Iowa State deep in its own territory on a third-quarter punt. The Cyclones faced third and 9 from their own 3 when quarterback Sam B. Richardson dropped back into the end zone and threw a bullet to receiver Quenton Bundrage. The sophomore did all the rest, racing past the Texas secondary for a 97-yard touchdown.

You be the judge. ESPN’s cameras turned up about three different angles, none of which showed with 100 percent certainty that the ball came out, but it appeared most impartial observers agreed there was enough evidence to overturn the ruling. Looks out to me. It’s very close, though.

David PurdyOn the play, Cyclones quarterback Sam Richardson dropped back into his own end zone and fired a strike to Bundrage on an “in” pattern, fitting the ball into an extremely tight window. Bundrage took care of the rest.
Richardson is now 11-of-15 on the night for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Bundrage has shredded the Longhorn defense for 133 yards on four receptions.
