Ex-Vanderbilt player seeking case evidence, including texts by coaches

The lawyers for a Vanderbilt football player are asking for more information to be released.

The lawyers of former Vanderbilt tight end Brandon Vandenburg are asking for more evidence to be brought to light in the case against four former Vanderbilt players charged with rape, via the Tennessean.

The information being sought includes text messages sent by coaches that Vandenburg’s lawyers think could provide additional details on what happened. The defense claims “a large amount” of evidence has not been made available, including text messages that may have been sent from coaches to players -- not necessarily a guarantee.

A previous report implicated head coach James Franklin in an alleged cover up, but the district attorney denied those claims.
