Iowa QB Jake Rudock out with knee injury after leg roll-up

The Hawkeyes starter left the game in the third quarter after taking an awkward hit.

Iowa quarterback Jake Rudock was injured during the third quarter of the Hawkeyes' game against Nebraska on Friday afternoon and appears as if he will not return. After Rudock threw a pass, he was rolled-up on by Nebraska defensive tackle Vincent Valentine. He had to be helped off the field, and backup C.J. Beathard replaced him.

Here’s how the injury happened:

As the third quarter came to a close, Rudock was on the bench with his helmet off. He was also seen testing the right leg with a knee brace on before heading to the locker room.

The Hawkeyes led 24-10 when Rudock left the game, and now it will be up to the inexperienced Beathard to hang onto the lead. Beathard, a freshman, is appearing in just the fourth game of his college career. He is 5-of-18 for 124 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in 2013.

Rudock finishes the day 9-of-15 for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
