Things Friday decided: the C-USA East, the MAC East, a handful of regional trophies of varying taste, and even a couple of BCS hopes. And we’re not done yet. What could be better? TV schedule. Scoreboard.
No. 20 UCF narrowly escapes South Florida

Brad Barr-USA TODAY SportsUCF came out sloppy and appeared to have overlooked the Bulls a bit, falling behind by a field goal early in the second quarter. They did seem to get their footing after that and led 13-6 at halftime despite three turnovers (which ballooned to five for the game). The Bulls didn’t go away and outscored the Knights 14-3 to lead 20-16 with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Bortles, who has played really well all season long, stepped up under pressure, though, and found Perriman streaking wide open down the sidelines to give UCF a 23-20 advantage with 4:50 to go.

Jonathan FerreyThe two offenses took their turns taking shots down the field throughout the game. There was a total of six lead changes, including four in the fourth quarter. After the Ducks stormed out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, the Beavers fought back to tie the score at 17-17 just before halftime with a touchdown pass from Mannion to Terron Ward.
OSU opened up the second half with a 47-yard field goal, but UO took the lead right back as Mariota hit Huff for their first touchdown connection of the night. An Oregon State field goal and touchdown reclaimed the lead early in the fourth, but the Ducks came right back once again as Mariota found Huff in the end zone again to take a 30-29 lead. Then came Bolden’s touchdown run, which was followed by Mariota’s game-winning drive in the final minute.

The first half was a blur. The score was 27-21 in Fresno State’s favor after the first quarter, and a 19-yard touchdown pass from David Fales to Chandler Jones with just 50 seconds left in the half gave the Spartans a 42-41 lead going into the break.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY SportLSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger ended his Senior Day unceremoniously.
While driving his team down the field down 27-21 to Arkansas, Mettenberger took a hit to his left knee, which was already in a brace, and went down in pain. It appeared Mettenberger’s knee hyperextended on the play and he had to be helped off the field.

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY SportsVideo via Rivals.com
Bo Pelini entered Friday needing a win against Iowa to assure himself of another season as the Huskers’ head coach. While a loss to his team’s designated Thanksgiving week rival wouldn’t assure him of a termination, a 38-17 blowout loss coupled with multiple instances of Pelini’s apparent quick temper could make his exit just a little bit more likely.

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY SportsLINCOLN, NEBRASKA—If this was Bo Pelini’s last game at Memorial Stadium, he didn’t go quietly.
Iowa jumped on Nebraska early then hung on for a 38-17 victory, the Hawkeyes’ first win at Nebraska since 1943. Iowa took advantage of three Nebraska turnovers and some generally boneheaded special teams play to gain the upper hand, and the Hawkeyes’ ability to capitalize delivered the victory in Lincoln.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY SportsA quick start propelled Marshall to an easy 59-28 victory over East Carolina on Friday afternoon. The victory clinched the Conference USA East Division title for the Thundering Herd.
East Carolina was fortunate to be so close at that point. A Marshall punt return touchdown that would have made it 31-0 was called back, and while the Herd initially appeared undeterred by that setback, they coughed up the football in the red zone several plays later, again depriving themselves of more points and a larger lead. ECU scored its first touchdown on the ensuing drive, then picked off Cato to set up a field goal before the half.

We asked SB Nation’s Dan Rubenstein, an Oregon grad and a well-traveled college football fan if ever there was one (Dan’s day job is literally talking about college football while trying out restaurants), for his recommendations.

Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY SportsMan, poor Quint Kessenich. The guy has to ask grumpy college football coaches questions on the move. After Mark Dantonio snapped at him last week, Bo Pelini met Kessenich’s question about the two interceptions Nebraska threw to fall behind 14-3 at halftime with a little snit of his own:
“What do you think? What kind of question is that?” If anything, it’s impressive how quickly Kessenich rebounded to keep on asking questions.
