Zach Mettenberger injury: LSU QB leaves game after hurting knee

Mettenberger’s comeback attempt was stopped short when he left with an injury on Friday against Arkansas.

LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger ended his Senior Day unceremoniously.

While driving his team down the field down 27-21 to Arkansas, Mettenberger took a hit to his left knee, which was already in a brace, and went down in pain. It appeared Mettenberger’s knee hyperextended on the play and he had to be helped off the field.

The play resulted in a big gain down the field, but losing Mettenberger was a tough blow. After being helped off, Mettenberger was being examined by trainers with his mother there with him on the sideline. He attempted to walk around on the knee for a bit but was grimacing in pain.

Anthony Jennings replaced Mettenberger for LSU and managed to get the Tigers a field goal on the drive to pull them within three. Mettenberger reportedly had a standing invite to the Senior Bowl and has NFL aspirations. The extent of his injury is not yet known, but it could affect more than just his senior season.
