Heisman odds 2013: Winston odds-on favorite, Lynch, Miller right behind

With Alabama falling, Jameis Winston is still the favorite, but there are still nearly a dozen candidates for the prestigious award.

It's hard to think of a recent year in which there have been nearly a dozen Heisman candidates near the end of the regular season, yet here we are. Jameis Winston is still the favorite, but Jordan Lynch and Braxton Miller are creeping into the conversation after Alabama's loss to Auburn, via Sportsbook.com.

Jameis Winston (QB, Florida State) -2000

Jordan Lynch (QB, Northern Illinois) +400

Braxton Miller (QB, Ohio State) +1000

Bryce Petty (QB, Baylor) +2500

A.J. McCarron (QB, Alabama) +2500

Teddy Bridgewater (QB, Louisville) +2500

Andre Williams (RB, Boston College) +2500

Johnny Manziel (QB, Texas A&M) +2500

Ka'Deem Carey (RB, Arizona) +5000

Marcus Mariota (QB, Oregon) +5000

Tajh Boyd (QB, Clemson) +10000

That’s right, you’ve got a five-way tie for fourth place, two Pac-12 players below them, and Tajh Boyd back in the running even after a blowout loss to South Carolina.

Winston is still the favorite to win the award, as he has been much of the season. The quarterback of the top team in the land generally has a built-in advantage in the race (see: McCarron before this week), but it helps that the freshman has also had a fantastic statistical year, setting the Florida State single-season record for touchdown tosses (passing a mark set by Chris Weinke during his Heisman campaign).

Lynch is your only non-power conference contender for the award, and as non-power conference contenders tend to do, he’s built his candidacy on an undefeated record and gaudy statistical achievements. He ran for 321 yards against Western Michigan his last time out -- his second 300-yard game of the year -- and ranks fourth in the nation in rushing yards (and third with 20 rushing touchdowns).

There are only three undefeated teams left, and the quarterbacks of each team are in the top three, with Ohio State’s Miller in third. After suffering an early-season injury, he’s caught fire in the second half of the season, with 12 total touchdowns in his last three games.
