Clemson vs. South Carolina 2013 results: Gamecocks’ senior class caps off terrific stretch with another big win

Clemson fans, meanwhile, are very disappointed after another important loss.

Clemson-South Carolina is going to be a good game any year, but especially so when both teams enter the matchup ranked in the top 10 nationally. That was the case Saturday night, when No. 6 Clemson entered their contest against No. 10 South Carolina as underdogs, and the Gamecocks did not disappoint in an easy victory.

Shakin’ the Southland is distraught over the loss, and says the Tigers simply aren’t living up to expectations set for themselves.

Florida State was much better than Clemson overall--there is no doubting that statement unless you are the head coach at Clemson who believes it is essentially a coin flip. National Championship quality teams don’t turn the ball over six freaking times en route to their fifth consecutive loss to the in-state rival. Yes, I do understand that Clemson beat a good Georgia team in week one but I also know that when the dust settled, the only other two real teams we played all year outscored the Tigers by 51 points. Let me repeat that, 51 points. It would take a whole lot of Tommy Bowden logic to rationalize that kind of beating over the course of two football games. National Championship caliber football programs, if you haven’t paid attention, don’t lose like in that fashion.

Garnet & Black Attack is happy with how the game and season turned out, but disappointed that the Gamecocks fell short of an SEC Championship bid once again.

While it’s disappointing that Carolina won 10 regular-season games without making it to Atlanta for the third straight season, I find it difficult to be disappointed with today. First of all, you have to hand it to Mizzou. Outside of one quarter against the Gamecocks, they’ve been nearly flawless this year. They earned it, and I tip my hat to Gary Pinkel and his team. If we had been similarly consistent, we wouldn’t have lost to a bad Tennessee team, and it would be us taking on Auburn. It’s a tough thing to think about, but sometimes you have to give the other guy credit for being just a little bit better than your excellent.

Brandon Larrabee at Team Speed Kills says this South Carolina senior class is the best they’ve ever had at the university.

Because no matter what happened in Missouri on Saturday night, this class capped off by far the most accomplished four-year stretch in South Carolina history. Three wins each against Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. The last four victories in a five-game winning streak against Clemson, the longest the Gamecocks have ever enjoyed. The first SEC East title. The first 11-win season. The first back-to-back seasons of double-digit wins and, in a milestone clinched with the victory over Clemson on Saturday, the first back-to-back-to-back seasons of 10 or more wins. It’s 41 wins and counting for a program that has never seen 41 wins over a four-year stretch. Ever.

The game was a tight one heading into the fourth quarter, but back-to-back Gamecock touchdowns in the final period sealed it. It's been Connor Shaw so many times this season, but the final touchdown was actually thrown by Pharoh Cooper -- a skill player.
