Dave Christensen to resign as Wyoming football coach, according to report

After a 4-2 start, the Cowboys went 1-5 down the stretch to miss a bowl for the second straight year.

Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen will resign from his position with the school’s football program, according to the Football Scoop.

In five years with the Cowboys, Christensen posted a 27-35 record, making bowl games in two of his first three years before faltering the past two seasons. After starting the season 4-2, things looked hopeful for Wyoming to make it back to postseason play, but they won just one of their final six games, including a 35-7 blowout loss to Utah State in their finale.

In 2009, Christensen’s first year with the program, Wyoming went 7-6 before winning the New Mexico Bowl. Two years later, the Cowboys won eight games and returned to the New Mexico Bowl. After middling finishes in the Mountain West over the last two years, that will be that for the head coach.

Christensen was previously the offensive coordinator at Missouri, where he made a name for himself in 2007, helping Chase Daniel become a Heisman finalist. Considering that track record, it’s little surprise his parting with Wyoming went smoothly:
