2013 MWC Championship: Fresno State vs. Utah State TV time and preview

Derek Carr and Davante Adams look to secure the Mountain West title at home.

Now that a possible BCS bid is no longer on the line, this game looks a bit less appealing, but if for nothing else, tune into to see the Derek Carr passing attack Saturday will be one of the last two times it will be on display for the college football world to see. Indeed, despite being one of the most under-recognized signal callers in college football, the truth is that Carr has fantastic all season long, throwing less than 300 yards only twice while compiling a 45:5 TD:INT ratio.

The numbers

Rankings and records: The Bulldogs are ranked 23rd in the BCS, and have a 16-10-1 all-time record against the Aggies, including five straight victories.

Vegas: Fresno State began as a six point favorite, but that number is rapidly falling.

Weather: 30 percent chance of rain with a high of 48 on Saturday.

Three names to know

Darell Garretson (Utah State quarterback) Had Chuckie Keeton been available, the story for this one would have been a duel between two of the Mountain West's best. Instead, the attention shifts to Garretson. In his first game filling in for the injured Keeton, Garretson struggled in a 34-23 loss to Boise State, but he has gone 5-0 in his other starts, tallying a 9:4 TD:INT ratio. Those numbers are not as spectacular as that of his Bulldog counterpart, but Garretson will need to at least help keep pace.

Davante Adams (Fresno State wide receiver) There are receivers who have good seasons, and then there's Davante Adams, who just finished the regular season with 113 catches for 1,477 yards and 22 touchdowns. That touchdown figure is even more impressive when you consider that Adams by himself was more productive as a receiver than all but 44 passing offenses in college football this year.

Nevin Lawson (Utah State cornerback) Hoping to slow Adams and Carr will be Lawson, who has been one of the best Aggies on defense this year. The senior from Lauderhill, Fla., has four interceptions and 12 passes defensed on the season.

Two things at stake

With their 62-52 loss on Black Friday, Fresno State lost any chance of going to a BCS bowl they would have had to finish in the top 12, or at the very least, higher than two other conference champions in the top 16. Instead, they fell out of contention for meeting either criteria, and barring some massive shift in polling, will only have the conference crown and bowl positioning to play for, rather than a BCS bid. The same goes for Utah State, which is 8-4 and has already secured a bowl berth. Who will be the Mountain West's finest this year?
