Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State 2013 results: Sooners come back to take Bedlam, 33-24

It took a while for both teams to warm up in the frigid cold, but three touchdowns in the final 1:46 meant this game lived up to its moniker.

Oklahoma has given Oklahoma State fits over the past decade, and the 2013 matchup was no different. Blake Bell engineered a late drive to take Bedlam 33-24 for the Sooners, their ninth win in the last 11 meetings with the Cowboys. Oklahoma State misses out on the Big 12 title with the loss, and Texas and Baylor will play for the conference title.

Temperatures in Stillwater at kickoff were below 20 degrees, and it affected the gameplay. Guys looked a step slow, and things were generally out of sorts. Desmond Roland had a 75 yard TD run on first play, but it was called back for holding. Roland did get the Cowboys on the board with a touchdown later in the first quarter, though. Their lead wouldn't last long though, as Jalen Saunders returned a punt 64 yards to tie the game at 7-7.

Oklahoma State kicker Ben Grogan hit a 41-yard field goal to take the Cowboys up 10-7, but the most noteworthy thing about the kick was that it took place during an earthquake.

The Sooners knotted the score at 10-10 before the half, but Kendal Thompson had to come on for the injured Trevor Knight, who got hurt right before halftime. Oklahoma's offense wasn't doing great with Knight, but the Sooner offense really struggled at first with Thompson taking the snaps.

It felt like Oklahoma State was on the verge of taking control, but they could never build on their lead and it cost them. The Sooners turned a Clint Chelf interception into a game-tying touchdown with 2:35 left in the third quarter, but it was a wild ride to get there. After a near-miss on third down, Oklahoma faked the field goal on fourth down and kicker Michael Hunnicutt caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from holder Grant Bothun.

OU was able to take the lead with about 10 minutes remaining on a 39 yard field goal from Hunnicut. Oklahoma State would eventually answer, as Desmond Roland capped off a seven-play, 89-yard drive with his second touchdown of the day to make it 24-20 with less than two minutes remaining.

Oklahoma had one more shot, and Blake Bell — who took over for Thompson late in the third quarter — drove them down the field before connecting with Jalen Saunders for an eight-yard touchdown pass to take the game for the Sooners.

Eric Striker picked up a touchdown on the last play of the game, as Oklahoma State's attempted hook and ladder went horribly wrong deep in their own territory.

Box Score Hero:

Saunders was Oklahoma’s best weapon all day. He had two total touchdowns and was a threat on offense and special teams. Honorable mention goes to Oklahoma State’s Roland, who rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns for the Cowboys.

Rankings Ramifications:

Oklahoma State came into the game ranked sixth in the BCS standings, but their national title hopes are basically zero. Oklahoma came in ranked 17th in the BCS, and has an outside shot at a BCS berth with the win.

But Did They Cover?

Oklahoma State was a 10-point favorite at kickoff, so they did not cover the spread.
