Former Nebraska running back Braylon Heard is officially transferring to Kentucky, according to ESPN’s Joe Schad. Heard has been rumored to be headed to Lexington for some time, but it would seem that the transfer is now officially on.

The former Nebraska back will be moving closer to home to play college football.

Heard visited Kentucky back in March, and he was also reportedly considering Pitt as a potential transfer destination. He rushed for 348 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore in 2012 and averaged nearly seven yards per carry.
Heard is a big get for the Wildcats, who suddenly seem to have some program momentum under new head coach Mark Stoops. SB Nation’s UK blog, A Sea of Blue, is excited about the addition:
Heard was slated to move up to the #2 running back on the depth chart at Nebraska, and by the time he puts on the Blue and White, he will be a mature player ready to compete for the starting position immediately. He will have plenty of competition for the starting spot if things stay as they are, however, but he would be the highest ranked recruit that Kentucky has at the position.
As for Nebraska, Heard's departure leaves the Cornhuskers a bit thin at running back, with Ameer Abdullah and Imani Cross as the only returning backs with any real experience.
