Johnny Manziel on NCAA concerns: ‘It gets to you’

Johnny Manziel has seen a lot of eyes on him for his public exploits and is a bit worn out by the attention he’s received.

Johnny Manziel is constantly facing public scrutiny for all his rather visible exploits, despite the fact that he comes from rather lofty origins (his parents have done quite well in the oil business and in real estate). The Heisman Trophy-winner has a lot of attention surrounding him due to some rather highly entertaining Tweets. Manziel retired from Twitter for a brief sojourn before returning a few weeks later.

Manziel is rather exhausted at the attention he's been receiving from various fans, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports. What seems to draw the most attention are some of the events he's attended, including road trips, top-notch tickets to NBA and NFL games, and potential rules violations for dinners. Manziel told Feldman that he's a little perturbed by all the attention focused on him, particularly considering attending prominent sporting events and getting excellent tickets all the time.

“They keep sending me questionnaires like ‘How did I go to the Spurs game?’ Even though I’ve been going to Spurs games since I moved to Kerrville when I in the seventh grade,” Manziel said. “A good family friend who we’ve known since before I ever thought of playing college football has a suite there. We’re going to go to the suite and we’re just gonna watch the game. I know Tony Parker on a personal level and if I go down to say hello, I’m not doing anything wrong.

Manziel had a simple message for those who believe the funding for his assorted adventures is illicit.

“They keep sending me questionnaires asking me who’s funding the trip? Who’s doing this? Every time I respond back ‘ME, ME and ME’ in capital letters. Hey, I don’t mean to sound rude, but this is stuff I’ve always done, and I know you’re just doing your job, but it gets to you every now and again.”
