College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock is plenty excited about the new College Football Playoff after being not so excited about a playoff for approximately forever. He’s so excited about the new playoff format that he stated that it won’t be changed at all for the next dozen or so seasons.
College Football Playoff not expanding beyond 4 teams, says Bill Hancock
The College Football Playoff is staying at four teams for the length of the ESPN contract, according to quotes from the executive director.

Hancock: "We know people are going to want eight [teams], and some are going to want 16, or 32. But it’s going to be four, for 12 years."

This desire is apparently echoed by the university presidents and conference commissioners. These are the same presidents and commissioners who seemed fairly satisfied with no playoff several years ago.

Hancock maintained as early as Monday night that a four-team playoff is the ideal for maintaining the best matchups and rewarding a true champion. This seems to contradict earlier statements made by Hancock in a radio interview he did a few years ago, saying that there would be no perfect size to a college football playoff.
Hancock also talked about the possibility of reopening bowl contracts.
Bill Hancock said playoff bowl contracts could be reopened after six years if new stadium opens or problems occur with current bowls.

The current bowls that are partnered with the College Football Playoff are the Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Chick-Fil-A and Cotton Bowls. Outside of the Rose Bowl, all current facilities are housed in regular NFL stadiums, so it’d be hard to see the situation changing there.
