Ohio State’s off-the-field issues don’t bother those in charge of predicting the Big Ten. The Buckeyes projected to win the conference nearly unanimously, per an unofficial poll put together by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and was the only school to put three players on the watch lists released by the conference.

Here’s how voters picked the order of finish in each conference in the Plain Dealer poll, with the amount of first-place votes received in parentheses:

NIU picked to repeat as MAC champs

Aside from Northern Illinois, Toledo, Ball State, and Central Michigan all received first place votes in the West division. Over in the East, Bowling Green, Kent State, and Buffalo also received first place votes. Both NIU and Ohio return 16 starters from 2012, but the Huskies must overcome turnover at head coach, where former offensive coordinator Rod Carey is replacing Dave Doeren, who left to take the N.C. State job prior to NIU’s Orange Bowl appearance.

Boise State, Fresno State dominate preseason MWC

    Otto Kitsinger III

There’s not a whole lot of debate as to who will be the elites in the Mountain West: In the preseason poll released at the conference’s media day in Las Vegas, Boise State and Fresno State were picked to win their divisions on 40 and 39 of 41 ballots, respectively.

Utah State kept Chris Petersen’s squad from being the unanimous winner in the Mountain Division, while San Jose State and San Diego State got one vote apiece in the West Division, but it doesn’t seem as if there will be much drama about who will qualify for the league’s first championship game. Last year, the Broncos and Bulldogs were joined by San Diego State in a three-way tie atop the conference as champions, but there won’t be any more split titles now that the league has 12 members. The two teams won’t have to wait until December to play: they’ll meet on Sept. 20 at Fresno State in a primetime Friday night game on ESPN, although a rematch seems probable.

    ‘Bama tops SEC preseason poll

    Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

The last day of SEC Media Days started with the conference releasing its media preseason poll and all-SEC teams, and there isn’t a whole ton of drama towards the top of college football’s strongest conference. But who the media chose to contend with Alabama is intriguing: they picked Georgia to win the Eastern Division and gave 11 first-place votes to Texas A&M to win the conference instead of the Crimson Tide.

The media released three separate polls: one poll for each division’s finish, where voters picked each side of the league from top-to-bottom, and one poll for the winner of the conference, ranked by number of votes. Last year, they picked LSU to win the conference over Alabama, who went on to become the national champions.
