Texas A&M could lose 5-star Ricky Seals-Jones for the season

The Aggies’ star recruit could be out for the year.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M could be without five-star receiver Ricky Seals-Jones for the rest of the year with a knee injury, according to Brent Zwerneman of the San Antonio Express-News. Coach Kevin Sumlin said on the radio this week that the Aggies are considering using a medical redshirt.

Seals-Jones was considered one of the top-25 recruits in the country in the 2013 class by the 247Sports composite, and was expected to play a significant role in the Aggies’ passing scheme this season as a true freshman.

After excelling in the team’s opener against Rice with three catches and 84 yards, he did not play in the Aggies’ second-week win over Sam Houston State and did not have a reception against Alabama. His 84 yards is still good for fiftth on the Aggies’ roster.

That 84-yard total was aided by a 71-yard touchdown catch, and Texas A&M would certainly miss his explosiveness if Seals-Jones has to miss the entirety of the year. He would likely receive a medical redshirt, as he played in less than the required maximum three games.

The Aggies would not be bereft of offensive options -- quarterback Johnny Manziel is the reigning Heisman winner and has Mike Evans, whose receiving yardage totals from the first three games come in at 84, 155, and 279, respectively.
