College football weekend news roundup: Tragedy in Cincinnati, players protest NCAA
Our roundup of all the news and events from Week 4 in college football.
Cincinnati
Tragic news out of Ohio, as true freshman offensive lineman Ben Flick died in an auto accident Saturday evening.
Protests
With a concussion lawsuit by former players growing, current players are showing solidarity by wearing “APU” written on their gear. APU stands for All Players United and at least seven players were reported to have been sporting the message on Saturday. So far, their coaches are expressing support of their right to speak out.
Mark Richt indicated after the game he didn't know about the wristband protest, but added: "It's a free country."

Polls
Without much happening on the field, we didn’t see too much poll movement. In the Coaches’ Poll, ranked teams Arizona State and Michigan State fell out after losses to better-ranked teams and Michigan fell three more slots after another unconvincing win. The top 14 teams in the AP Poll stayed the same, with Michigan falling, Arizona State dropping out, and Fresno State taking their place.
Ohio State
Braxton Miller missed out on the Buckeyes' 76-0 thrashing of Florida A&M, but backup Kenny Guiton filled in ably, throwing a school-record six touchdown passes in the win.
FIU
Your team may have done poorly this weekend (sorry, West Virginia), but your team is certainly not as bad as FIU. In the Golden Panthers’ 72-0 loss to Louisville, head coach Ron Turner may or may not have asked for a running clock -- essentially throwing in the towel.
LSU
High school freshman Dylan Moses has already made his college decision, committing to the Tigers. He is considered the top player in the 2017 class.
Washington State
After a 42-0 Cougar win over Idaho, head coaches Mike Leach and Paul Petrino exchanged words after the game. Leach had put some defensive starters back in the game on the Vandals’ final drive in order to preserve the shutout and it appeared Petrino was none too happy about it.
Auburn
Tiger wide receiver Jaylon Denson suffered a torn patellar tendon in Auburn's loss to LSU. He will require surgery.
BYU
Running back Jamaal Williams was released from the hospital after suffering a concussion in the Cougars’ loss to Utah. BYU says he is “day-to-day.”
Texas
The Longhorns avoided a catastrophic defeat to Kansas State, but will be without leading tackler Jordan Hicks for the rest of the season. The linebacker will be sidelined with an Achilles injury.
Meanwhile, local rivals Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Oklahoma are positively gleeful at the Longhorns’ troubles, printing “Keep Mack Brown” shirts in sarcastic support of the embattled Texas coach.
Florida
Starting quarterback Jeff Driskel is done for the year with a broken tibia, severely hampering an already-troubled Gator offense.
Clemson
Two injuries for the Tigers: backup linebacker Kellen Jones may miss the season with a possible ACL tear, and Carlos Watkins suffered an injury in a car accident.
Georgia
College GameDay is heading to Athens Saturday when Georgia will host LSU. The Bulldogs will be hoping to turn around an atrociously bad 3-13 GameDay record against a Tiger team that has had great success on the program, going 17-5.
