The Seminoles opened up the year in conference play, defeating Pittsburgh on the road in a Monday night showdown, 41-13. After a bye week, they trounced Nevada 62-7 and easily defeated Bethune-Cookman 54-6. The story of the year for Florida State has been redshirt freshman Jameis Winston, who has nearly as many touchdown throws (eight) as incomplete passes (14). When you add in his two touchdown runs, his stats somehow manage to look even better.
It’s hard to know what to make of Boston College, who started the year with a rough 24-14 win over FCS opponent Villanova. They got their conference schedule started off early as well, with a comfortable 24-10 victory at home against Wake Forest, but followed that up with a 35-7 loss at USC. The Eagles have some promising offensive playmakers and a defense that played well until the loss to the Trojans -- couple that with a bye week to prepare for this game and you’ve got a possible upset in the making.
The numbers
Rankings and records: Florida State is ranked eighth in both polls, while Boston College did not receive any votes. The Seminoles are 3-0, while the Eagles are 2-1, and both teams are a perfect 1-0 in conference play. The Seminoles have a 6-4 all-time lead in the series, and have won the last three games between the two schools. Over the past two years, Florida State has outscored Boston College 89-14.
Vegas: Florida State is a 21.5-point favorite on the road, and the over/under is 52 points. OddsShark has more.

Three names to know
Jameis Winston. The redshirt freshman has had an incredible year, and rumbles of a possible second-straight freshman Heisman can be heard around the country.
Devonta Freeman. The Seminoles' running back is averaging an insane 9.8 yards per rush, and will look to shoulder the load for Florida State early on.
Alex Amidon. The Boston College wide receiver is averaging 13.1 yards per catch and has the rare combination of playmaking ability and soft hands.
Two things at stake
Florida State will have a tough competition with Clemson for the division title, and can’t afford any slip ups.
Boston College is looking to prove that it can contend in the ACC this season, and a win would be huge for the program.
