Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia final score: Mountaineers rally to upset Cowboys, 30-21

Clint Trickett and his bum right shoulder led the Mountaineers to a possible season-saving win on Saturday.

West Virginia rebounded in a big way on Saturday afternoon with a 30-21 win over No. 11 Oklahoma State.

It was a bit of a sloppy game throughout with a handful of turnovers and missed scoring opportunities. Quarterback Clint Trickett injured his shoulder early in the fourth quarter, but the Mountaineers were able to come away with a potential season-saving win.

Trickett returned midway through the fourth and led WVU down the field to hit a 27-yard field goal that put the Mountaineers up 27-21. J.W. Walsh and the Cowboys had one final chance to make a comeback, but an errant pass was intercepted near midfield.

The Mountaineers put the cherry on top with a chip-shot field goal with just under 90 seconds remaining.

Box Score Hero: Trickett, who was making his first career start, was a bit shaky early but still managed to throw for 309 yards and a touchdown.

Walsh entered the game with a 70 percent completion rate. On Saturday, he completed just 20 of his 47 throws (42.5%) for 322 yards and two touchdowns.

Neither team was able to run the ball with any kind of efficiency, averaging less than three yards per carry.

Rankings Ramifications: The win won’t move WVU into the Top 25, though it will help their chances down the road if they’re able to pick up a few more wins. As for Oklahoma State, they will certainly drop in both polls, though they likely won’t fall any further than 18th or so.

But Did They Cover? Oklahoma State opened as a 21-point favorite. Most lines were down to 19 or 20 points by kickoff, according to Odds Shark, but the Cowboys obviously failed to cover.
