FSU vs. Boston College final score: ‘Noles too much for Eagles, 48-34

A valiant Boston College effort kept the game reasonably close, but FSU comes home with the win.

A 17-3 Boston College lead quickly disintegrated, and Jameis Winston put together a sterling performance to lead Florida State to a not-quite-as-comfortable-as-you’d-hope victory, 48-34.

The key stretch for FSU was the last five minutes of the first half, when Winston led a surgical 7-play, 80 yard drive to tie the game. Then, after FSU forced a quick Boston College punt, Winston struck again with a Hail Mary to give the Seminoles their first lead of the game.

Boston College just doesn’t have the talent to turn around a great deal of momentum against a Top 10 team, take back the lead and keep it, unfortunately. So while the Eagles didn’t roll over after halftime, they never seriously challenged for the win in the fourth quarter either.

Box Score Hero: Winston reasserted his claim for Heisman candidacy with another dominant performance, going 17-for-27 for 330 yards, four scores and a pick.

Rankings Ramifications: Poll voters are unlikely to look at much of anything other than the final score, but FSU’s margin of victory should be big enough that nobody will punish the ‘Noles for the close nature of the game. Look for FSU to hold at No. 8.

But Did They Cover? FSU was a 24-point favorite coming up to Boston, so no cover for the Seminoles here.
