TCU star defensive end Devonte Fields started the second half of the Horned Frogs' game against Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon, putting an end to what was originally reported as a two-game suspension.
Devonte Fields’ suspension by TCU ends early vs. Southeastern Louisiana
Head coach Gary Patterson’s plans were murky up until Fields took the field Saturday afternoon
Fields was suspended for two games back in May for a violation of team rules and, although he dressed for the Horned Frogs’ opener against LSU last week, the 2012 Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year did not play. Head coach Gary Patterson was coy before the LSU game about the suspension and just as unwilling to give reporters any answers in the buildup to this week’s game, listing Fields at the top of the depth chart.
The Horned Frogs were up by just three points at halftime over the Lions, leading many folks on Twitter to think Patterson -- who had been glib about the suspension already -- was simply waiting until TCU needed him too much to let him sit on the sidelines any longer.
