Tennessee vs. Western Kentucky 2013 final score: Vols pound Hilltoppers 52-20

Bobby Petrino and the Hilltoppers didn’t come close to another win over an SEC team.

The Tennessee Volunteers walloped Western Kentucky Saturday afternoon, 52-20, giving WKU coach Bobby Petrino a cold reminder of what playing SEC teams not named Kentucky is actually like.

The Hilltoppers started the game about as poorly as any team can start, turning the ball over five times in their first six offensive plays. That left them in a giant 31-3 hole midway through the second quarter. Tennessee was capitalizing on its opportunities on offense, too, including opportunities to make ridiculous juggling catches à la Antonio Freeman.

Soon thereafter, Western Kentucky started to get some offense going of its own, including an absolutely bananas flip by running back Leon Allen over two Tennessee defenders. It was getting close with a 31-1 score at halftime, but that all changed after half.

Tennessee scored two touchdowns on the legs of Rajion Neal and the rout was on. Tennessee would score another touchdown on a one-yard pass from Justin Worley to Brendan Downs with 10 minutes to add to the final margin.

The story of the game -- other than WKU's horrible turnover stretch early -- was Tennessee's ground game. Worley only needed to attempt 19 passes because Neal and Marlin Lane combined for 171 yards and four touchdowns. The Volunteers moved to 2-0 ... and Bobby Petrino came back down to earth.
