San Diego State vs. Ohio State 2013 final score: Buckeyes win 42-7 after Braxton Miller leaves game

The Buckeyes lost Braxton Miler to injury, but didn’t skip a beat Saturday against San Diego State.

The Ohio State Buckeyes lost Heisman hopeful Braxton Miller in the first quarter Saturday, but it hardly mattered in this one in a 42-7 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs. With Kenny Guiton taking over at quarterback, the third-ranked Buckeyes looked as high-powered as ever.

Miller suffered a knee injury on the Buckeyes’ first drive of the game, making his way to the locker room on a cart. ESPN’s broadcast said Miller injured his left MCL and the knee would be put in a brace before he could return. However, with the Buckeyes blowing out SDSU, risking the quarterback’s health didn’t prove necessary.

Turning to the ground without Miller, the Buckeyes totaled 265 yards rushing and 447 yards overall. Urban Meyer spread around the opportunities after getting an early lead, with five different players finding the end zone in the first half alone.

The Aztecs managed 283 total yards, but three turnovers crippled their offense.

Box Score Hero: Without Miller, the Buckeyes needed Guiton to step up and he did just that. The senior completed 19-of-28 passes for 152 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, also doing serious damage on the ground with 83 yards and a score.

Rankings Ramifications: With top-ranked Alabama off this week, the Buckeyes’ lopsided victory should keep them at No. 2 or No. 3 in the national rankings. It will be hard for OSU to get that top spot without a Crimson Tide loss.

But Did They Cover? The Buckeyes were 28-point favorites entering Saturday’s game, so they covered without their best player.
