The Oregon Ducks dominated Virginia on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 59-10 win at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. Through two games this season, Oregon has scored 122 points.
Oregon vs. Virginia final score: Ducks fly past Cavaliers, 59-10
Oregon took an early 21-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, picking apart UVA’s defense with ease.
The game was over midway through the first half. Marcus Mariota ran right up the gut for 71 yards to give the Ducks an early 8-0, and then two touchdown rushes from De'Anthony Thomas pushed the lead to 21-0. Virginia answered with a touchdown toward the end of the quarter, but it was all Oregon after that.
This 98-yard interception return from the Ducks in the fourth quarter pretty much summed up the day for Virginia. They just didn’t have the speed to keep up:
Box Score Hero: As a team, Oregon carried the football 40 times for 350 yards, good for an absurd 8.8 yards per carry. The Cavaliers had zero answers for the Ducks on offense, and it led to one of the more lopsided loses in recent school history.
Rankings Ramifications: Oregon should hold firm at No. 2 in the polls after earning a respectable road win. At this point, if Oregon can remain undefeated, they should play for the BCS National Championship. Simple as that.
But Did They Cover? Oregon opened as 23.5-point favorites, covering the spread with ease.
