It’s been an interesting season in the Pac-12 South, that’s for sure. And after some unexpected struggles from UCLA, Arizona State has the potential to win the division ... despite its massive loss to the Bruins. The Sun Devils are 3-1 in the conference, and after wins over USC and Stanford, they look like the favorites to win the division.
How to watch Arizona State vs. Washington: Game guide, TV/streaming, odds
Can Arizona State stay in control of the Pac-12 South?

But this team is no juggernaut, and to stay the favorite, ASU is going to have to keep winning. Washington provides an interesting test. By all accounts, Arizona State is the better team this year, but both of these teams have been inconsistent at times, and if Washington has a good day while ASU has a bad day, things could go poorly for the Sun Devils.
Washington has been a tough team to nail down, too. The Huskies blew out Cal and have had some nice offensive days, but they also struggled against Hawaii and came up short (by varying degrees) against Stanford and Oregon. A win against Arizona State would be a big boost for the program in Chris Petersen’s first season.

Two things at stake
If Arizona State is going to stay the frontrunner in the Pac-12 South, the Sun Devils have to win this game.
Washington isn’t going to win the Pac-12 North, but winning this game would be a nice boost for the program under Petersen.
One big matchup
Washington offense vs. Arizona State defense: Washington’s offense has been far too inconsistent this season, and while it’s had some good games against bad defenses like Cal and Illinois, it has struggled against better defenses like Oregon and Stanford. Arizona State’s defense isn’t a juggernaut, but it’s still solid, and Washington is going to have to be able to move the ball to keep up with the strong ASU offense. If it does, then the Huskies will have a chance to get the upset.
