Can Ole Miss dismantle its rival’s playoff hopes in the Egg Bowl?
After a 7-0 start to the season, Ole Miss has lost its last three SEC games. The Rebels dropped close affairs with LSU and Auburn before being blown out by Arkansas last time out. Ole Miss still claims Top 25 victories over Alabama and Boise State as well as solid victories over Memphis and Texas A&M.
Mississippi State held on to the No. 1 ranking for a good chunk of the season, starting 9-0 with wins over LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn and Arkansas. A 25-20 loss at Alabama knocked them out of the top spot, but they’ve been able to hold on to the fourth spot in the playoff. They’re fresh off a 51-0 beatdown of Vanderbilt, and could still win the division if Auburn knocks off Alabama later Saturday.

Two things at stake
Mississippi State cannot grab a playoff berth without winning this game.
Ole Miss could salvage a disappointing end to the season with a victory.
One big matchup
Dak Prescott vs. Ole Miss defense. Mississippi State’s quarterback is a powerful runner, but he’ll be faced with a physical Rebels defense. Ole Miss hasn’t been quite as stout on defense as it was at the start of the season, but if Prescott collides with defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, watch out.
