2014 Heisman Trophy voting results: Marcus Mariota sweeps regions, sets ballot record

Oregon’s vaunted signal-caller dominates voting for the 2014 Heisman and sets a record for most landing on the most ballots, but the biggest record barely stays clear.

SB Nation 2014 College Football Guide

As he did in so many Oregon Ducks games this year, Marcus Mariota ran away in the 2014 Heisman Trophy voting, putting forth one of the most lopsided voting victories in Heisman history.

Mariota didn’t quite hit the record for most points as a percentage of possible points; that still belongs to 2006 winner Troy Smith of Ohio State, who had 91.63 percent. Mariota came in second all-time there, with 90.9 percent. That’ll do, right? That’ll do just fine.

Here’s the voting points breakdown by candidate.

Mariota: 2,534
Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon III: 1,250
Alabama WR Amari Cooper: 1,023
TCU QB Trevone Boykin: 218
Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett: 78
Florida State QB Jameis Winston: 51
Indiana RB Tevin Coleman: 44
Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott: 42
Arizona LB Scooby Wright: 21
Baylor QB Bryce Petty: 13

And here is your voting points breakdown by region. As you can see, Mariota wasn’t seriously threatened anywhere in America, even in the Amari Cooper-friendly South and Melvin Gordon’s backyard in the Midwest.

Northeast Mid-Atlantic South Southwest Midwest Far West
Mariota 409 410 426 434 420 435
Gordon 201 208 167 198 256 220
Cooper 150 184 256 173 121 139
