Texas and Arkansas square off in the Texas Bowl Monday in one of this postseason’s most intriguing matchups. Both teams finished strong, but which will hit the offseason with a victory?
Dealing with the Razorbacks' running attack is a ridiculous feat, but the Longhorns' rushing defense showed promise against Oklahoma (3.4 yards per carry), Kansas State (3.3) and Oklahoma State (1.5). With Malcolm Brown, Jordan Hicks and Steve Edmond in their front seven, they may be able to handle the attack of Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins, who combined for 2,109 yards and 23 touchdowns.
The Razorbacks started 0-4 in SEC play, all but eliminating hopes for a postseason bid. Arkansas continued to improve as the season went on, beating LSU and Ole Miss by a combined score of 47-0 in back-to-back weeks. Every single conference opponent was ranked at the time Arkansas played them, but a 4-0 record in conference play and those two victories brought them to the postseason.

Rankings and records: Neither team is ranked. Both teams are 6-6 this season. The Longhorns hold a 56-21 lead in the all-time series between the two schools.
Vegas: Arkansas opened as 5-point favorites. The line has since moved to 6. The over/under is 44.5.

Two things at stake
The winner of this game will finish 2014 with a winning record.
If Arkansas dominates in the way they did Ole Miss and LSU, we could see them as a trendy high pick in preseason polls.
One big matchup
Tyrone Swoopes vs. Arkansas defense. Two key players in Arkansas' secondary will miss the game due to suspension, which should help the Texas passing attack. Swoopes has shown glimpses of being a top-level playmaker, and this will be a tough test for the young quarterback. Even without a secondary at full strength, this Razorbacks defense is one of the best in the country.
