The Wildcats and Broncos should put on a show in Tempe. Here’s how you can tune in, and what to watch for.
The 2014 Fiesta Bowl features an intriguing matchup of teams in the Arizona Wildcats and Boise State Broncos. Not many expected either team to reach this level of success in 2014, but here they are anyway.
The general consensus about Rich Rodriguez at Arizona was fairly bullish, but a Pac-12 South title was not predicted by many before the season. That's exactly what they did, beating arch-rival Arizona State and getting some help from Stanford to lock up the division title on the last week of the regular season. Freshman quarterback Anu Solomon left the Pac-12 title game in a walking boot, but should be good to go for the game.
For Boise State, the first year of Bryan Harsin's tenure was nearly perfect. They lose their season opener to Ole Miss, which is certainly respectable, and then only dropped one other game the rest of the way. The Fiesta Bowl will be the send-off of star running back Jay Ajayi, who is forgoing his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft.

The numbers
Rankings and records: Arizona enters this game ranked No. 10 in the nation, and is 10-3 (7-2 Pac-12). Boise State is 11-2 (7-1 Mountain West), and ranked 20th in the nation. These two programs have never met before.
Vegas: The Wildcats opened as four-point favorites, and that line has moved down to -3 at most books. The over/under is 68.
Weather forecast: Mostly cloudy with a high of 61.
Two things at stake
Arizona: Their best season since the 1990s. The Wildcats have not been a program steeped in success for quite some time. They have still never been to a Rose Bowl, but their first trip to the Fiesta Bowl since 1993 has to feel pretty good for Rich Rodriguez and company.
Boise State: Another win over a Power Five team. The Broncos have made their bones as a national program by winning games against highly rated teams from bigger conferences. After Chris Petersen left for Washington, there was some doubt whether the program could continue to live at the lofty station it occupied, but a win over a 10-win Pac-12 team would be a good indication they’re here to stay for a while.
One big matchup
Nick Wilson vs. the Boise State front seven. When Wilson is running at full tilt, the Wildcat offense is incredibly difficult to stop. Boise State has a pretty respectable run defense, and they'll have to be up to the task of the Broncos want to slow things down for their opposition. Whoever wins this matchup will more than likely win the game.
