2014 BITCOIN St. Petersburg Bowl, UCF vs. NC State: Date, time, location and more

The St. Petersburg Bowl remains the most Internet bowl game, as BITCOIN replaces Beef ‘O’ Brady’s as the game’s sponsor.

The St. Petersburg Bowl was first known as the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl. Then it was renamed to the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl in 2009 when sponsorship changed, making it an instant favorite of the Internet with all of its apostrophes. It should remain an Internet favorite going forward, as cryptocurrency BITCOIN has moved in as the new title sponsor. This year, it will be UCF vs. NC State, according to ESPN.

Here is everything you need to know about this year’s game:

Date and time, ET: Friday, Dec. 26, 8 p.m. ET

TV channel: ESPN

Location: St. Petersburg, Fla.

Stadium: Tropicana Field, 40,000

Last year’s score: ECU 37, Ohio 20

Last year’s attendance: 20,053

Last year’s TV rating: 1.33

Last year’s payout for each school: $500,000

Team with the most all-time appearances: UCF, two

Team with the most all-time wins: Six schools have won once.

NC State Wolfpack (7-5, 3-5 ACC)

2014 was a big step forward for the Wolfpack. In year two of Dave Doeren’s tenure in Raleigh, NC State jumped from 3-9 to 7-5 and claimed a victory over in-state rival North Carolina. It finally broke a 12-game losing streak in conference, and won three of its last four to close out the year.

The player to watch for the Wolfpack has to be quarterback Jacoby Brissett. The Florida transfer finally got his first real chance at starting, and he completed 59.9 percent of his passes while throwing 22 touchdowns to only five interceptions. He also ran for 498 yards and three touchdowns. The offense runs through Brissett and running back Shadrach Thornton, so expect a ground-heavy bowl game.

Last bowl game: 2012 Music City Bowl vs. Vanderbilt, 38-24 loss

All-time bowl record: 14-12-1

Head coach’s bowl record: Dave Doeren, 1-0

UCF Knights (9-3, 7-1 American)

UCF had a chance to start the season off with a splash, with back-to-back games against Penn State and Missouri. However, the Knights came up just short against PSU and got blown out by Mizzou, hurting the impressive national perception they’d built with Blake Bortles at quarterback in the Fiesta Bowl win over Baylor.

However, the Knights bounced back in the admittedly easy American, beating Houston and BYU in the process, and then beating East Carolina on a last-second Hail Mary to clinch a share of the conference title (with Memphis) for the second straight year. Last year’s team was known for its offense, but this year’s team rode a solid defense all season, and now is poised to reach double-digit wins once again by winning its bowl game.

Last bowl game: 2014 Fiesta Bowl vs. Baylor, 52-42 win

All-time bowl record: 3-3

Head coach’s bowl record: George O’Leary, 5-5
