Ex-Nebraska coach Bo Pelini taking Youngstown State head job, per repors

The Youngstown native may be about to restart his head coaching career at the FCS level.

Bo Pelini, the former Nebraska head coach who was fired on November 30, will accept the same position at Youngstown State once he is formerly offered the job, according to Football Scoop.

Update, December 16: Multiple reports from local media state Pelini is taking over the Penguins.

Nebraska fired Pelini despite his 67-27 record with the school. He took over in 2008 and won at least nine games in each season, but a lack of conference titles or major bowl games proved to be his downfall. The Cornhuskers were 39-17 in conference play under Pelini.

Youngstown State is replacing Eric Wolford, who failed to lead the Penguins to the FCS playoffs during his tenure. Wolford went 31-26 in five years at Youngstown. Other possible candidates mentioned for the job included Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell and Florida Atlantic offensive coordinator Brian Wright.

Nebraska hired former Oregon State head coach Mike Riley to take over in place of Pelini. Riley spent a total of 14 years in two stints with the Beavers, compiling a 93-80 record.
