Tray Matthews announces he will transfer to Auburn

The former starting safety at Georgia is taking his talents to Auburn. The Bulldogs have lost three starting defensive backs this offseason.

Auburn continued its recent run as "Transfer U" on Saturday afternoon as former Georgia starting safety Tray Matthews announced he would be taking his talents to the Tigers.

Matthews was kicked off Georgia's team last month for a classroom incident. It did not take the former four-star recruit more than two weeks to find his next home in Auburn. Tigers fans are very familiar with Matthews by now: he (No. 28) was helping cover Ricardo Louis in this wild finish:

That pass was thrown by Nick Marshall, who also began his college career as a cornerback at Georgia.

Matthews appeared in six games as a freshman, recording 36 tackles and one interception. He also recovered a fumble.

Georgia has been hit hard by transfers this offseason. In addition to Matthews leaving for Auburn, starting defensive backs Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins elected to take their talents to Louisville. Both players are sitting out the 2015 season, as well.
