How to watch Georgia vs. South Carolina: Game guide, TV/streaming, and more

As it often does, the 2014 installment of the Georgia-South Carolina game will set the landscape for the race to win the SEC East. If the Bulldogs win, they’ll be in complete command of the division. If the Gamecocks win, they’ll technically have the inside track but, with Tennessee and Florida looking much improved, the East could still be wide open.

Georgia has scored just 10 combined points in its last two trips to Williams-Brice, and South Carolina hopes that the Bulldogs’ struggles in Columbia will continue. But UGA is looking quite formidable after blowing out Clemson 45-21 to start the season.

Rankings and records: Georgia is 1-0 after beating Clemson in week one and having a bye in week two. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 6 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25.

South Carolina enters the game 1-1, ranked No. 23 in the Coaches Poll and No. 24 in the AP poll. Dating back to their win over Georgia in week two of the 2010 season, the Gamecocks have been ranked in the AP poll for 67 consecutive weeks, the fifth-longest such streak in the nation. If SC isn’t able to upset Georgia, that streak will likely come to an end.

Vegas: Georgia opened as 2.5-point favorites, but the line was quickly pushed to 7 points in favor of the Bulldogs.

Weather forecast: High of 82 with a chance of scattered thunderstorms.

Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia. Through two games, South Carolina has not been very good at stopping the run. Through two seasons and one game, Todd Gurley has been very good at running. Gurley gained 198 yards and scored three touchdowns on just 15 carries against Clemson. The Tigers were expected to have one of the best defensive fronts in the country. South Carolina might have one of the worst. There’s a chance that Georgia will run Carolina out of the building and, if that happens, it will likely be because the Gamecocks were not able to slow down the Bulldogs’ Heisman Trophy candidate.

Dylan Thompson, QB, South Carolina. Through two games, the Gamecocks’ offensive struggles have largely centered around quarterback Dylan Thompson’s inconsistently. While he hits the occasional big play, too often the short- and medium-range passes are far off the mark. If South Carolina is going to be able to sustain drives and keep Georgia’s offense off the field, the Gamecocks’ senior quarterback will need to bring his A game.

Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina. Though backup Brandon Wilds has proven over the years to be a capable running back, there’s just a different feel to South Carolina’s offense when Mike Davis is on the field. Davis has missed time this fall with a hamstring injury and bruised ribs. The Gamecocks will need him to be full-go on Saturday if they want to pull off the upset.

This may very well be the most important game of the season for South Carolina. Lose to Georgia, and the Gamecocks will essentially be out of the race to win the SEC East. A win, however, would wipe out the blot caused by the season-opening loss to Texas A&M and put South Carolina on equal footing with Georgia in the division.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, have conference championship and CFB Playoff aspirations after completely shutting down Clemson in week one. A misstep in Columbia would derail those plans and -- with games against Auburn, Florida, and Missouri still on the schedule -- make it difficult for Georgia to keep pace in the SEC East.
