College football gives us some pretty awesome stats, like the ones coaches and athletic departments make up in order to make their bad teams look better. But here’s the greatest stat of the week.
How to watch Texas vs. Kansas: Game guide, TV/streaming, odds
It’s the first historic matchup in Texas-Kansas history!

Saturday will be the first time ever that a Kansas team with a winning record plays a Texas team with a losing record.
— Greg Tepper (@Tepper) September 22, 2014 The Longhorns and Jayhawks have only played 13 times, and Kansas has actually won two in a row in the series (in 1901 and 1938). Plus this shouldn’t be a huge surprise, since Winsipedia reminds us that Texas football has been better than Kansas football at everything since their inceptions.
Still, it’s pretty hilarious. And sadly for Kansas, it doesn’t mean the Jayhawks are likely to win.
How to watch, listen, and stream
Game time: 4:10 p.m. ET
TV: Fox Sports 1
Online streaming: Fox Sports Go
The numbers
Rankings and records: Kansas is 2-1, while Texas is 1-2. Neither team is ranked.
Vegas: Texas is a 13.5-point favorite on the road. The over/under is 41.5.
Weather forecast: Lower 80s and clear.
Two things at stake
Charlie Strong is getting time from the administration to turn Texas around, but starting out 1-3 and losing to Kansas in the process won’t exactly make the fan base (or the boosters) feel any better about the state of the program.
Kansas can boost its profile (if only slightly) under Charlie Weis by winning this game. If it loses, it will still be Kansas.
One big matchup
Kansas offense vs. Texas defense: Both of these offenses have struggled this year, but the Jayhawks have been particularly bad on that side of the ball, while the Longhorns have been pretty solid on defense. This won’t be a shootout, but Kansas is going to have to have its best offensive game of the season to be able to keep up. Kansas ranks 113th in the offensive S&P ratings, so that doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. The Jayhawks might need Texas to kick off twice to win this one.
