The Ole Miss Rebels received good news beyond their 24-3 victory over Memphis Saturday night: they’ll play host to College GameDay October 4. Oh, and they’re also playing host to Alabama.
‘College Gameday’ headed to Ole Miss for first time
The Rebels will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in a battle of unbeaten Top-10 programs.
That should lock it up: @CollegeGameDay headed to The Grove for Bama at Ole Miss next week
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) September 28, 2014 Both teams are 4-0 this season, with a spot in the top 10 of the rankings to show for each. Neither has had to face a ranked opponent so far, but neither has won a game by less than two scores.
This is my 19th year on the show, and it seems like we've been talking about getting to Ole Miss for 12 or 13 years. Like, since Eli Manning was a sophomore, we've been talking about wanting to get to the Grove. I've been there when we used to call Thursday night games with Mike Tirico, and did the Egg Bowl every Thanksgiving, so I've never really seen the Grove in all its glory, because that's when school's out. That by far stands out to me as a place we've gotta get.
Alabama holds the 47-9-2 lead in the all-time series between the two schools, and has won the last 11 matchups between the two schools (including four since-vacated victories). Ole Miss last beat the Tide in 2003, when David Cutcliffe’s Rebels beat Mike Shula’s Alabama 43-28.
