Hosting College GameDay in Eugene, Oregon on week two is a tricky proposition, at least if you’re hoping for a monstrous fan turnout and a steady stream of especially clever signs waving behind Chris Fowler’s head. Asking college students to turn up for a show that starts at 5 a.m. local time is tough, even at a football-crazy campus such as Oregon. Matters weren’t helped by the fact that Oregon’s classes don’t actually start for another two weeks.
Best of ‘College GameDay’ at Michigan State-Oregon: Signmakers not yet in midseason form
A noticeable lack of technique and fundamentals plagued the GameDay signs in Eugene.
The show at least ended with the kind of chaotic frenzy that fans have come to expect.
While there was a welcome lack of the horribly offensive signs that plagued the week one GameDay set, the overall quality of work felt a bit like homework done at the last second as the teacher is walking around the class to pick it up.
Take this, for example. What in the world is happening here?
Duck farting roses and Spartans? Please help us understand this sign. http://t.co/ABWi5sAfQr pic.twitter.com/yklMKDe8Mp
— SB✯Nation CFB (@SBNationCFB) September 6, 2014 Outside of the facts that Oregon is playing Michigan State today and the Ducks sometimes make it to the Rose Bowl, this just doesn’t make ... any sense.
That's not how you spell Floyd. RT @cjzero: Floyd Mayweather and Bama reading sign pic.twitter.com/GWAZhPowgo
— Jack Kogod (@Unsilent) September 6, 2014 Overzealous and undereducated Alabama fans are a favorite punching bag in this type of venue, but this is just poor execution right here -- the kind of thing you’d get Processed for in Tuscaloosa.

— Brent Pantaleo (@BrentPantaleo) September 6, 2014 That just seems like the kind of thing an Oregon resident should either already know or at least think to Google before going all in on the GameDay sign.
You're doing GameDay signs wrong Oregon. pic.twitter.com/X8LUEYKzrY
— Isaac (@WorldofIsaac) September 6, 2014 It's certainly OK to feel that way, but I don't know if this is the time or place.
— Land-Grant Holy Land (@Landgrant33) September 6, 2014 OK, Oregon. That one's pretty good (Michigan State's basketball program is more historically successful than its football program) but sort of ignores the fact that the Spartans have one of the best programs in college football right now.
