Iowa LT Brandon Scherff leaves with apparent right knee injury

The monster left tackle appeared to hurt his right knee trying to make a tackle on a fumble return.

UPDATE: Scherff is back in the game for Iowa.

One single play couldn't have gone any worse for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Ball State's Blake Dueitt returned a fumble 35 yards for a touchdown, and star left tackle Brandon Scherff appearted to hurt his leg while trying to make the tackle in the end zone. Trainers were reportedly looking at his right knee before he went back to the locker room for further attention.

It's unclear from the clip exactly how Scherff got hurt, but it appears he may have gotten tangled with quarterback Jake Rudock in the tackle. He needed assistance to get off the field, but was able to walk back to the locker room on his own.

Losing Scherff for any length of time could be disastrous for the Hawkeyes, but could potentially take a lot of money out of his pocket next April. Scherff could be as high as a top five pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but that’s putting the cart a bit before the horse.
