Watch the Indiana vs. Duke Pinstripe Bowl online: Time, TV schedule, live stream, 3 things to know

Duke is looking for their first bowl win since 1960, but a 1-4 finish to their season doesn’t bode well for the Pinstripe Bowl.

Someone’s postseason losing streak will disappear at the Pinstripe Bowl. Will it be Indiana’s 24-year drought? Or will it be Duke and their 55-year stretch without a bowl victory?

Duke will have to recover from a late-season slide to get there. Seven games into the season, they were 6-1 and in control of their own destiny in the ACC Coastal division. Then, Miami pulled a rabbit out of its hat to stun the Blue Devils on their home turf, and the team still hasn’t fully recovered.

The Hurricanes eight-lateral, referee-aided, game-winning touchdown sent Duke tumbling out of the national rankings and into a four-game tailspin only a matchup against 3-9 Wake Forest could fix. Now, the reeling Blue Devils will have to prove they’ve put a terrible end to the regular season behind them when they face Indiana in the 2015 Pinstripe Bowl.

The Hoosiers were able to recover from a similar slide early in the season when their schedule went from non-conference soft to Big Ten insane mode. They lost six straight games to fall to 4-6 as the season wound down, three of which were to top six teams, five to bowl-eligible teams and one was a loss to Rutgers where they blew a 25-point lead and gave up 55 points overall. Fortunately, their balanced offense was able to shoulder the burden of the nation’s 117th-best scoring defense and carried Indiana to big wins over Maryland and Purdue to clinch a postseason spot in the final two weeks of the season.

Duke will try to take advantage of that to salvage a year that started off with tremendous promise before disintegrating into a pile of green and orange goo on Halloween night. A win over the Hoosiers would give them their first bowl win since 1960 and make that Miami game a distant memory. They’ll have to find a way to shut down Nate Sudfeld and the Hoosiers first.

Three big things to know

1. Can the Duke secondary survive without All-American safety Jeremy Cash? His college career is over after undergoing surgery for a wrist injury suffered in the final week of the season. Cash had recorded at least 100 tackles in each of the past three seasons, including an insane 18 tackles for loss this year. The Blue Devils will be without their biggest playmaker on the defensive side of the ball, and they’ll need someone to step up with big plays in his absence.

2. Nate Sudfeld quietly developed into one of the nation’s most effective passers as a senior. The Hoosier threw for 3,184 yards and recorded a sparkling 24:5 touchdown:interception ratio, while leading his team to their first bowl game since 2007. A big performance against Duke could push Indiana to their first postseason win since 1991.

3. A look at the advanced stats supports the 2.5-point spread in the Hoosiers’ favor. S&P+ predicts a three-point Indiana win in the Bronx, despite fielding a defense that couldn’t crack the top 100 among FBS programs. That’s because the Duke offense has been similarly ineffective this fall. Maybe don’t bet the over on this one.
