Houston vs. Florida State odds, Peach Bowl 2015: Seminoles betting favorite vs. Cougars

The Houston Cougars and the favored Florida State Seminoles meet in the Peach Bowl this New Year’s Eve at the Georgia Dome.

The Florida State Seminoles are 8-3 straight up and 8-2-1 against the spread in their last 11 bowl appearances. The Seminoles will be looking for their seventh bowl win in their last eight bowl games this Thursday afternoon against the Houston Cougars in the Peach Bowl.

Florida State is a seven-point betting favorite at the Georgia Dome according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The betting favorite is just 3-7 ATS over the last 10 Peach Bowls.

Coming into the season, bettors didn’t have high expectations for the Seminoles, who lost 11 players to the NFL Draft including quarterback Jameis Winston.

But while the Seminoles never worked their way into the playoff discussion this season, they did have a strong year with a 10-2 SU and 8-4 ATS record, highlighted by double-digit wins over Louisville, North Carolina State and Florida. The team ranked fifth in the nation in scoring defense allowing 15.8 points per game.

Florida State ended the season on a 5-0 ATS run, winning four games as a favorite and covering the spread as an underdog against Clemson per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Cougars vs. Seminoles OddsShark Matchup Report

After improving to 10-0 SU with a 35-34 win over Memphis, it looked as though the Houston Cougars might go undefeated in 2015. A loss as a 7.5-point road favorite to Connecticut the following week ended that dream.

But the Cougars bounced back nicely from the loss, finishing the year with back-to-back double-digit wins and covers over Navy and Temple to end the year with a 12-1 SU and 8-5 ATS record and earn this spot in the Peach Bowl. Houston is 3-7 SU in its last 10 bowl games.

Thursday’s total is set at 55.5. The UNDER is 5-1 in Houston’s last six games and 7-2 in Florida State’s last nine games coming off of a win.

Houston ranked 11th in the nation in scoring this season with 40.6 points per game, setting the stage for an interesting battle against Florida State’s elite defense. The Cougars offense should be able to do enough to cover the spread as a 7-point underdog in the Peach Bowl.
