Michigan State’s linebackers excited to test themselves against Alabama’s Heisman winner

Alabama tailbacks Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake responded to some Michigan State’s tweets leading up to the Cotton Bowl.

No. 3 Michigan State linebackers Jon Reschke and Riley Bullough were pretty excited when No. 2 Alabama tailback Derrick Henry won the 2015 Heisman Trophy. That meant that they would test themselves against the nation's top college football player in the Cotton Bowl.

On Sunday, Henry responded during a media event in the lead up to the New Year’s Eve bowl. The junior tailback wasn’t offended by the challenge.

That’s the attitude you have to have on defense. You have to want to hit. You have to want to be physical. We just have to get ready for them in practice all week.

His backfield partner, running back Kenyan Drake, was more direct with his response.

You have to show us better than you can tell us.

When asked about the tweet, Bullough told reporters the comment was “all in good fun.” Spartan defensive end Shilique Calhoun was quick to point out Henry was guilty of issuing some trash talk of his own.

‘I mean, he called us Michigan [during an ESPN interview],’ Calhoun joked. ‘You can’t get no worse than that.’

Each side stayed jovial and respectful throughout the press conference. The two teams square off on Thursday night to determine the second participant in the 2015 National Championship Game.
