Video emerges from TCU QB Trevone Boykin’s bar fight arrest

The Horned Frogs play Oregon Saturday. Boykin has been suspended.

TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, in San Antonio for his team’s Jan. 2 Alamo Bowl against Oregon, was arrested early Thursday. Security video released by TMZ Saturday (H/T Sporting News) appears to show Boykin being thrown out of a bar and fighting with bouncers before being arrested.

From News 4 San Antonio:

San Antonio police say the quarterback was arrested following a fight at Pat O’Brien’s located on 242 Losoya Street. Boykin was accused of indiscriminately hitting a patrol officer around 1:52 a.m Thursday morning.

Police say the trouble began when bar patrons recognized the player and exchanged words. They say an upset Boykin allegedly took a swing, missed and made contact with a bar employee instead.

As security worked to stop the fight, people were moved outside. At that point, police say bike officers arrived and came upon Boykin as he was taking swings and say the player indiscriminately hit an officer.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson announced that Boykin and backup wide receiver Preston Miller are suspended “due to a violation of team rules.”

Boykin released an apology via Twitter.

Boykin was a long-time Heisman contender before dealing with injury late in the season. He’s widely known as a good dude. This positive encounter with Oklahoma State fans after his team’s loss serves as an example of his public persona, and his general reputation makes this news a surprise.
