What Everett Golson’s transfer means for both FSU and Notre Dame

Good morning! Here’s your daily digest of college football news.

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Everett Golson is a Seminole. The former Notre Dame quarterback has made his decision: he’ll try to become Jameis Winston’s heir at Florida State.

“To coach Jimbo Fisher, the Florida State football team, staff, alumni and fans, thank you for allowing me to become part of the Seminoles family,” the QB told Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. “I can’t wait to get started.”

FSU fans have plenty of questions regarding the signal caller.

“While he’s experienced, Golson has not played in anything similar to Jimbo Fisher’s complex, pro-style offense. Golson will have very little time to learn the offense, and even less time with a full complement of teammates at fall camp,” writes Tomahawk Nation.

But Notre Dame partisans are going to miss him. They might be quick to move on, however, since the Irish offense could be better under Malik Zaire.

Fisher (predictably) had high praise for his newest player.

“After meeting with Everett, I came away very impressed,” Fisher said. “He is extremely intelligent and a very personable young man. It’s a pleasure for us to add him to our Seminole family. We’ve been one of the most successful programs in the country the last few years, and we look forward to getting him down here this summer to begin work on helping us continue that success.”

Team previews go B1G. Bill C’s 128-team offseason preview moves into power conference territory, taking on Indiana. It’s a make-or-break year for the Hoosiers, who have gone 14-34 in four years under head coach Kevin Wilson.

New lids. It looks like Cal might have a snazzy new helmet the Bears will wear this season.

The latest in Jim Harbaugh weirdness. Former UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel says Harbaugh once acted like a jerk during their postgame handshake.

Important brackets. Our LSU blog knows tailgating food, and it’s come up with a bracket to determine the best.

CROOTIN’.

Fastest of the fast. A look at hurry-up, no-huddle offenses shows that Bowling Green led the country in pace last season. The Falcons managed to beat out Oregon for the top spot.

You can unretire a number? Syracuse is doing that with its No. 44, and Orange legend Donovan McNabb is unhappy.
