Snoop Dogg’s son leaving UCLA football for the second time

The Pac-12 is running low on famous sons.

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Four-star true freshman wide receiver Cordell Broadus left the UCLA football team in August 2015. Broadus, the son of Snoop Dogg, remained a student at the school and eventually rejoined the program as a walk-on the following March.

As of fall 2016, Broadus has left again. From head coach Jim Mora after practice on August 8:

Cordell is no longer with the program. He’s going to pursue other passions in his life and we encourage that. I appreciate that fact that he came back out again this Spring and gave it another shot. But this is an incredibly talented young man in so many areas and it will be fun to watch what he does with his life. We haven’t heard the last from him. Probably, just the start.

Rated as the No. 26 wide receiver in the class of 2015, Broadus went through a unique recruiting process as the child of a celebrity. His father was a very public USC fan throughout his recruitment, but immediately switched allegiances to UCLA on live TV when his son committed.

Broadus’ second exit again makes the Pac-12 very low on the sons of famous musicians.

Last offseason, Diddy was arrested for an alleged kettlebell-involved fight with UCLA’s strength coach reportedly over the treatment of his son Justin Combs, a defensive back on the team. Combs went on to graduate from the school.

Naijiel Hale, son of the late Nate Dogg, was dismissed from Washington’s team for a disciplinary matter last August. The former four-star recruit saw time as a starter with the Huskies in 2014 at cornerback.
