Before playing for Clemson, Deshaun Watson was an Atlanta Falcons ball boy

The Heisman Trophy finalist learned about football from two of the league’s best receivers.

On Monday night, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson will lead the Tigers against Alabama for the National Championship. But while in high school, he worked as a ball boy for the Atlanta Falcons.

Watson grew up and played high school football in Gainesville, Ga., approximately 60 miles from the Georgia Dome. Among his duties were helping Roddy White and Julio Jones warm up before games.

Watson told AtlantaFalcons.com that working with Jones and White taught him about preparation:

“The way they prepare before practice and warm up, it’s a real job, it’s a real lifestyle,” Watson said. “Learning from those guys, seeing how those guys run routes really prepared me for this level and hopefully for the future.”

As good as Clemson’s receivers have been this year, White and Jones are just a bit better.
