Deshaun Watson saw himself ‘going ham’ in the National Championship 5 years ago

The Clemson star was ready to dominate in the National Championship a half-decade ago. He’s already done it once. Can he do it again?

Bart Boatwright-USA TODAY Sports

Last year, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson took a star turn in a National Championship loss to Alabama. Watson threw four touchdowns and went over 400 yards, nearly pulling off an upset of the best team in the land. He was playing the last game of his sophomore season.

Four years before that, Watson saw it coming for himself.

Watson was preparing for this moment back then, as well, working as an Atlanta Falcons ball boy after high school games and picking up practice traits and route running from Julio Jones and Roddy White. He’d been preparing for that moment for years, and he seized it. It wasn’t enough to beat the Tide last time around, but it was close.

Now Watson’s got another shot, in Monday’s rematch against the Tide. Just like he was last year, Watson’s the most important player in this game. We’ll see if he can go ham against Bama one more time.
