Notre Dame official takes shot at Michigan allegedly screwing over a recruit

If what this player implied is accurate, then this is bad, no matter how common it is.

Michigan allegedly pulled its offer from four-star 2016 offensive tackle Erik Swenson just weeks before National Signing Day. Swenson had been committed to Michigan for two years and stayed true to his commitment through the coaching change to Jim Harbaugh.

We can’t get the coaches’ side due to NCAA rules, and timing matters. If this happened recently, as Swenson’s claimed, it left him very little time to make a decision before Signing Day, and it’s a bad look for Harbaugh.

To the best of our knowledge, Swenson was not actively checking out other schools while committed to Michigan. His 247Sports profile does not list a visit to another school within the last 10 months. It’s clear that Swenson still wants to be committed to Michigan.

While we can't know for sure what happened here, it is clear that athletes have very little leverage and can have offers stripped at any time. It happens all over the country.

Notre Dame sports information director Michael Bertsch took a shot at the Wolverines amid the news.

BURN. (Except, the Irish were accused of doing the same thing during the Lou Holtz era, and this happens more often around the sport than is made public.) We have reached out to Bertsch for comment.
