Georgia Tech vs. Georgia 2016: Start time, live stream, TV schedule, and 3 things to know

Which team will be more up for this?

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The 111th edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate kicks off on Saturday when Georgia Tech goes to Athens to face Georgia. There isn’t much at stake in terms of postseason implications, but Georgia will be keen to beat Georgia Tech for the seventh time in eight years.

For Georgia Tech, it’s rare that they have a chance to finish with a better record than the Dawgs, but this is their opportunity. 7-4 may be cause for deep concern at Georgia, but for Georgia Tech, this is a solid rebound after a disastrous 2015 season that started with big expectations, and ended with a 3-9 record. The Yellow Jackets have won four of their past five games, including a 30-20 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

Georgia, meanwhile, probably just wants to get this season over with. They were supposed to contend for the SEC East, but their season’s aspirations were scuttled by four losses in a five week stretch, including a Hail Mary loss to Tennessee and a loss to Florida in the Cocktail Party.

Three big things to know

1. Nick Chubb has not had the season most people expected, and needs 100 yards against Georgia Tech to hit 1,000 for the season. He has quietly put together back-to-back 100 yard games against Auburn and Louisiana-Lafayette, however, and Georgia Tech's rush defense is ranked 107th in the nation according to S&P+.

2. Georgia’s offense has struggled all season. There’s been plenty of blame to go around, between play calling, offensive line play, and a true freshman quarterback. They’re 95th in the nation with 5.34 yards per play, and 103rd with 23.7 points per game. Even if Georgia’s record was better than 7-4, that’s simply not good enough.

3. Georgia has won six of their last seven games against Georgia Tech. There isn’t much to play for in this game otherwise, but Georgia Tech doesn’t want to let a shot at 8-4 go to waste, and Georgia can’t afford to have a bad year end on an even more sour note.
