Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State 2016: Start time, live stream, TV schedule, and 3 things to know

The Aggies should take care of business in Starkville.

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

No. 4 Texas A&M hits the road for an early start against Mississippi State, and the numbers are overwhelmingly in favor of the Aggies poaching an easy win. A&M is having a great season at 7-1, and double digit wins are easily in reach for Kevin Sumlin.

Mississippi State struggled with FCS Samford last week before coming away with a 56-41 win, and that was an improvement over the three-game losing streak that came before. Two of those losses were to Kentucky and BYU, so that gives you a good window into where Dan Mullen's Bulldogs sit in year one after losing Dak Prescott.

Texas A&M, meanwhile, is flying high after emerging from an offseason of hot seat talk surrounding Sumlin. Their only loss is to Alabama, which is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, and the offense has gotten back to its high-scoring ways with Trevor Knight at the helm.

Three big things to know

1. Having already lost to Alabama, Texas A&M would need to win out and have the Crimson Tide lose twice to edge ahead of them in the SEC West. This is not particularly likely, but the Aggies can keep themselves in the race for a Playoff spot or a New Year’s Six bowl berth with a strong finish. This is their final road game of the season, and while Starkville may not be the toughest place to play in the SEC, it does present its own challenges.

2. Mississippi State is running out of chances to pull this season back off the cliff. They’ll need to beat one of either Alabama or Texas A&M, as well as their other two games against Arkansas and at Ole Miss, just to get to six wins.

3. The big mismatch here appears to be Texas A&M's offense against Mississippi State's defense. The Bulldogs are 74th in Defensive S&P+, and Texas A&M's offense is ranked 23rd. Trevor Knight and the Aggies should have another productive day.
